Stuck!
Our campaign for revealing and addressing the origins and real experience of stuck lives ... and the limitations of stuck thinking and health systems
The Crisis of Stuck Lives
Millions of people are stuck. Their lives are held back by an ongoing struggle with a chronic physical or mental health condition, with pain or disability, with work stress and burnout, loneliness, insecurity, climate change and many other factors and circumstances. Increasingly, people experience more than one limiting condition, many of which are unseen, poorly understood and unaddressed. There is a growing crisis of stuck lives in society and we are running out of ideas, resources and capacities to fix it.
Our mission is to lead and drive a whole experience revolution, one that reveals the real experience of stuck lives, empowers millions of people to reclaim and expand their lives, and transforms how we think, learn and create beyond health
How to start - our reframing of the Stuck Lives problem
Primary framing
Umio
Whole dynamic experiences of being / becoming (un)stuck that transcend health and non-health conditions, factors and circumstances. These include "multi-morbid" psychological, bodily, social, cultural, economic, technological, spatial and environmental influences forming whole experiences of being stuck in life.
Incumbent thinking and systems
Individual biomedical diseases, syndromes, conditions or illnesses, psychological disorders, and/or personal health, wellbeing or wellness.
Central problem(s)
Umio
How people can free themselves from unworkable treatments, thoughts, feelings, behaviours and/or circumstances that can lead to stuck, diminished lives.
How to better see, know and address the conditions and factors that create systemic stuckness in society.
Incumbent thinking and systems
How to better diagnose, treat and alleviate chronic disease, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma (and other biomedical / psychological problems).
How to create personal wellbeing and resilience (to life's challenges) through self-help and the pursuit of wellness.
Mechanisms of change
Umio
Reframing of beliefs and thoughts pertaining to stuck conditions and contexts using Umio Health Ecosystem Value Design 2.0.
Incumbents
Disease symptom relief, wellbeing or quality of life improvements through treatments, psychotherapy, tools, mindfulness, education, community, and other approaches.
Foundational belief
Umio
Constant happiness or wellbeing is an unrealistic goal; having negative thoughts, feelings, and sensations is a normal part of being human. There is no such thing as a "normal" human experience.
Incumbents
Continuous happiness / wellbeing is the ideal goal; negative sensations, thoughts and feelings are not good or normal and must be replaced or eliminated.
Scope of impacts
Umio
Individual experience, and wider conditions and forces of people and groups being and becoming (un)stuck.
Incumbents
Individual responsibility for health and development of personal success in achieving relief, health, wellbeing or wellness.
